The Chinese Dragon Festival takes place in late October and lasts for about ten days. During the festival, the huge ceremonial dragons, so iconic of Chinese culture are Paraded around the streets each supported by up to forty people. On their journey, they visit all of the Chinese businesses in Nong Khai (of which there are many) in order to bring them good luck. They are accompanied by the sound of the drummers that follow them, and also the sound of the fire crackers which are let off in the streets.
As well as the dragons, there are also many other Chinese cultural events held throughout the festival, including traditional Chinese dance and opera shows. Much of this activity is centered around the Chinese school which is in the centre of Nong Khai, though also at the Chinese Temples around NOng Khai.
